Judge Alicia Washington has served on the Tenth Judicial Circuit since January 2016 where she presides in Traffic Court at the Peoria County Courthouse. Prior to her appointment as an associate judge, the Peoria native was a civil attorney at Janssen Law Center handling personal injury cases and worker’s compensation claims. She also advocated for clients at Prairie State Legal Services where she began her legal career.
Judge Washington has made a name for herself in Peoria as a recipient of Peoria’s 40 under 40. She was recognized by Peoria Magazine as a Women of Influence in 2016 and named a rising star by Illinois Super Lawyers in 2012. Judge Washington is active in the legal community as well as a member of the Peoria County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Judges Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and American Association for Justice, and the NBA Association.
Judge Washington received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois in Business Administration and completed her Masters in Leadership in Human Service Administration from Bradley University, returning to her hometown. From here, she went on to receive her Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University.
Judge Washington has served on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism since 2017.
