The GenShift: From Tension to Teamwork

The workforce is more diverse than ever — especially when it comes to age. Combining five generations in the workforce creates opportunities for mutual learning as well as potential conflicts.

In “The GenShift: From Tension to Teamwork,” Katherine Jeffery, PhD, a generational strategist, will explain the different expectations and experiences of all generations in the workplace.

She will then be joined by Kendra Abercrombie, Legal Recruiting & Professional Development Manager at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, and Julia Roundtree Livingston, DEI Manager at the Commission on Professionalism, to explore how lawyers can navigate generational differences and create workplaces where everyone feels valued.

As a result of taking this course, attorneys will:

  • Identify and understand the five generations in the legal workplace.
  • Learn about the different communication and work preferences of each generation.
  • Develop strategies to navigate friction with colleagues and clients across generations.
  • Learn the value of embracing generational differences in fostering successful, efficient, and culturally intelligent workplaces.

This session was presented at the 2025 Future Is Now: Legal Services conference. The course is approved for 1.0 hour of diversity and inclusion CLE credit in Illinois.
