Jeffrey W. Jackson, CPCU, recently retired as the Chief Legal Officer at State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company located in Bloomington, Illinois. State Farm® and its affiliates are the largest providers of auto, home and individual life insurance in the United States.
Jackson graduated with honors from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He obtained his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1976, and his law degree with honors from St. Louis University School of Law in 1979, where he was a member of the Law Review. Before joining State Farm, Jackson was a partner in the Peoria, Illinois, firm of Westervelt, Johnson, Nicoll & Keller, specializing in insurance defense trial and appellate practice.
He joined State Farm in 1988 and was named Senior Vice President and General Counsel in June 2008, where he had overall responsibility for the Corporate Law Department which handles litigation management and regulatory affairs and provides counsel to the organization.
Jackson is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Searle Civil Justice Institute in the Searle Center on Law, Regulation and Economic Growth, a program at George Mason University. The mission of the Searle Center is to study the impact of laws and regulations on economic growth and to communicate the results of that research to academic, public policy and judicial leaders. He is a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission for Public-Private Action, the primary initiative of the National Legal Aid & Defender Association’s Corporate Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Affairs Council and a member of the National Center for State Court’s General Counsel Committee.
He is a former director of the Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association and a member of the Illinois and American Bar Associations and the International Association of Defense Counsel. He previously served on the Illinois Task Force on Gender Bias in the Courts and as vice-chair of the Board of WTVP (Channel 47), a PBS affiliate, in Peoria, Illinois. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation and a former member of the Board of Directors of Lawyers for Civil Justice in Washington, D.C., where he served on the Executive Committee.
Jeff was appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism in 2016 and serves on the Audit and Finance Committee.
