Hon. Michael McCuskey
In 2014, after retiring following 17 years as a federal judge on the U. S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois — including eight years as Chief Judge from 2004-2012 — Judge Michael McCuskey returned to the bench in the Tenth Judicial Circuit to complete the term of a fellow justice.
He was first elected to the Illinois Appellate Court from the Third Judicial District in 1990 and served as Presiding Justice from 1994-1998, at which point he was appointed to the federal bench.
Michael McCuskey was a partner with Pace, McCuskey and Galley from 1975-1988. During this time he also served as chief public defender of Marshall County before his election to the Illinois State Circuit Court in 1988.
Judge McCuskey received his Bachelor of Science from Illinois State University and his juris doctor from Saint Louis University College of Law. He is currently serving as the chairman of Illinois State University Board of Trustees.
Judge Michael McCuskey was a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism since its inception in 2005 until his appointment by the Supreme Court as an adviser to the Commission in 2015.
